1. Record the slab before discussing products
Walk the entire garage in daylight. Note existing paint or sealer, visible cracks, chipped joints or edges, dark vehicle paths, oil-stained areas, and places that have been patched. Photograph the field, walls, steps, threshold, and any difficult edges. These observations do not diagnose the concrete, but they give an estimator a more useful starting point than square footage alone.
Ask what the on-site evaluation can and cannot determine. The proposal should distinguish included preparation and repairs from conditions that require a change in scope. Avoid choosing solely from a sample board before anyone has looked at the surface that must support the system.
2. Write down how the garage is used
Count vehicles and note where tires normally rest. Add workshop activity, rolling toolboxes, storage racks, pet access, lawn equipment, and the path people take into the house. Also mark the portion of the floor that receives direct light when the door is open. A selection conversation grounded in those details is more useful than asking for the strongest product in the abstract.
Bring up the spills you realistically expect and ask for care guidance specific to the proposed system. Do not treat general terms such as durable, chemical-resistant, or UV-stable as a complete specification; ask the contractor to connect each claim to the written product and warranty information for your job.
3. Compare proposals on the same worksheet
Put each quote into the same categories: slab evaluation, mechanical preparation, edge work, repairs, named coating layers, decorative finish, cleanup, project access, return-to-use instructions, and warranty. If a category is absent, ask whether it is excluded or simply not described.
Timing deserves its own line. Elite says qualifying residential projects may be completed in one day, while also directing customers to confirm return-to-use timing for the specific installation. Those are different questions: crew completion does not by itself tell you when every item or vehicle can go back into the room.
4. Use photographs as visual references

Ask who provides the warranty, what surface and use it covers, what exclusions apply, and what records you should keep.
